Orthodontics Course – Learning By Doing 5th Edition: Innovation and Interdisciplinary Practice

Welcome to the 5th edition of the Learning By Doing Orthodontics Course! This year, the course has undergone a major restructuring to better adapt to the current needs of professionals in the field. The focus is on integrating digital protocols into daily practice and the advantages of combining these with traditional analog methods.

What’s New in This Edition?

This course will focus on:

  • Clear and reproducible clinical protocols: Learn how to apply efficient protocols to achieve consistent results.
  • Integration of digital processes: In the era of technology, learning how to combine digital and analog techniques is essential for modern practice.
  • Interdisciplinary approach: This has been the foundation of the Learning By Doing educational platform since its inception in 2014, attended annually by over 100 colleagues.

Course Structure and Locations

The course is structured into 4 modules, held in two different locations:

  • The first 3 modules: Will take place at B the Dental Studio Clinic in Zalău.
  • Module 4: Will be held in Cluj-Napoca, with a special focus on interdisciplinary synergy.

The total duration of the course is 12 days, divided into 4 modules of theory and clinical practice. The course will also include a pre-course online meeting and 3 online meetings throughout the course, with dates to be set together with the participants.

Schedule of the 4 Modules

  • Module 1: September 19-21, 2024
  • Module 2: November 6-8, 2024
  • Module 3: December 11-13, 2024
  • Module 4: January 23-25, 2025

What Will You Learn in Each Module?

Module 1: [Dr. Diana Boangar, Dr. Christian Samoila]

  • Clinical data acquisition, orthodontic photography, impression protocols, imaging, aesthetic and functional analysis, Virtual Treatment Objectives.
  • Hands-on: Muscle and joint analysis, intra- and extra-oral photography, impression taking, and recording intermaxillary relations.

Module 2: [Dr. Diana Boangar, Dr. Christian Samoila]

  • Temporomandibular disorders, evidence-based clinical protocols, biomechanics of dental movements, skeletal anchorage.
  • Hands-on: Michigan splint adjustment, biomechanics of canine disinclusion, biomechanics of molar uprighting.

Module 3: [Dr. Diana Boangar, Dr. Christian Samoila]

  • Bonding techniques, treatment of Class II and Class III malocclusions, aligner therapy, IPR, finishing for aesthetic and functional results, retention, and stability.
  • Hands-on: Arch bending for contraction and finishing for Class II malocclusion treatment with 4 extractions on a typodont.

Module 4: [Dr. Daniela Balanean, Dr. Diana Boangar, Dr. Ionut Branzan, Dr. Ion Nicolescu, Dr. Christian Samoila + guest speaker (TBA)]

  • Oro-paro-prosthetic synergy, evidence-based protocols, surgical-orthodontic synergy in interdisciplinary treatment, surprise topic.
  • This day is open to all collaborators from other specialties of the course participants.
